Renju Chandran

Staff-level UX / Product Designer with 22+ years shaping enterprise digital products.

In 22+ years across finance, healthcare, telecom, and aviation, I've learned that the hardest design problems aren't visual — they're structural. How do you reduce support dependency by 40%? You redesign the workflow, not the button. How do you scale a product across business units? You build systems, not screens. At Bank of America, Verizon, EY, Citi, and FlightSafety International, my work has consistently sat at the intersection of UX architecture, design systems, and organizational alignment — where design decisions compound into operational outcomes.

I design enterprise systems where clarity, efficiency, and scalability matter.

I drive org-wide design strategy, aligning teams around shared systems that reduce fragmentation and scale across business lines.

Selected strengths

Why this matters

I operate at the layer where design decisions become organizational infrastructure — aligning multiple teams, establishing governance frameworks, and building systems that reduce decision burden across the org.

Reducing organizational risk

Staff- level design means fewer escalations, less rework, and faster onboarding. When systems are coherent, teams ship with confidence instead of clarification requests.

Systems that compound

A design system isn't a component library — it's an operating agreement. I build patterns that let teams move independently without fragmenting the product experience.

Accessibility as infrastructure

WCAG 2.1 and ARIA compliance aren't features to add later — they're load-bearing decisions. Building them in from the start prevents costly retrofits and expands market reach.

Perspectives

How I think about design

Short essays on the principles that guide my work at the enterprise level.

Design systems aren't component libraries — they're operating agreements

The most common failure mode I see in enterprise design systems is treating them as a UI kit. Components are the artifact; the real product is the decision framework that determines when to use them, when to extend them, and when to retire them. A system succeeds when a designer you've never met ships something consistent without asking anyone.

Accessibility isn't a feature — it's load-bearing infrastructure

Every time I hear 'we'll add accessibility later,' I know we won't. Not because of bad intentions, but because retrofitting WCAG 2.1 compliance onto an existing product costs 3–5x more than building it in from the start. Accessible patterns aren't constraints — they're engineering decisions that expand market reach and reduce legal risk simultaneously.

The senior designer's real job is reducing the cost of future decisions

Junior designers solve the problem in front of them. Senior designers solve the class of problem. Staff designers eliminate the conditions that create the problem. The difference isn't skill — it's scope. When I build a pattern, I'm not designing a component. I'm designing the decision that 50 engineers won't have to make next quarter.

more about me

I have been working with computers for 20+ years and I have gained a wealth of knowledge through hands on experience in all areas of design, computers and the internet. I am very passionate about the industry I am involved with and am proud to be considered one of the top web designers in Bangalore and to have achieved worldwide recognition for my work.

I view one of my major strengths being my adaptability. I am able to jump easily from being a designer, to a coder, to software and hardware technician, to decision maker. This adaptability can also be seen in my design work where I am able to handle any task I'm given, be it web, multimedia, branding, or print.
